What is Iontophoresis?
Iontophoresis is the process of passing a light electrical current through the skin. During the treatment, you will feel a slight tingling sensation, but the electrical current isn’t strong enough to shock you.
Iontophoresis is a universally accepted method to treat mild to severe hyperhidrosis / excessive sweating and is approved by credible organizations like FDA, international hyperhidrosis society, and American Academy of Dermatology.
How iontophoresis works is not exactly known. It is thought that the treatment somehow plugs the sweat glands and temporarily prevents you from sweating.
The NoSweat machine was especially designed and is manufactured here in South Africa to treat Hyperhidrosis. There are Iontophoresis machines available overseas which can be purchased online. One has the risk of purchasing a product online and perhaps not receiving your purchase, the cost is high and based on the ever fluctuating exchange rate, the fixed price varies. After sales service is very difficult if purchasing a product from overseas but through NoSweat you don’t have any concern as we are locally based.
During the NoSweat treatment, a specially designed electrical device and electrodes placed in shallow pans filled with water, transfers a light electric current into the skin’s surface. For first time users, start at the lowest voltage which is 12V and as you get used to the treatment over a period of time, you can select higher voltages that you are comfortable with.
The current is not strong enough to hurt or shock you and there are no serious or significant side effects to this treatment. Clinical studies in the world have shown an 80 – 98% success rate for patients who undergo the treatment. The benefits are long-term however provided you keep up with the treatment maintenance schedule.
This is not a cure for hyperhidrosis, but an ongoing treatment.
If you suffer from excessive sweating under your arms, you can purchase an add-on product to the NoSweat treatment machine. These small electrode paddles are placed into a slip-cover pouch soaked with normal tap water. The water assists with a good conduction of electrical current between the electrode and your skin. The slip-cover pouches are made of soft, durable cotton for multiple uses.
Each person will respond differently to the treatment and as the symptoms of sweating start to relieve, treatments can be done every other day and so on. You need to assess your own body!
Sadly there are some people who will not be able to use the NoSweat machine. This is very important to note –

Do not use the No Sweat treatment machine if you are:
• Pregnant.
• Have epilepsy.
• Have a heart condition.
• Have a pacemaker.
• Any metal implants, such as artificial joint replacements, any metal plates or screws in the areas you would treat.
• Sensitivity to electrical stimuli.
• Impaired sensation in any of the areas you would treat.
• Do NOT apply the electric current directly to the chest, the brain, or the sinuses.
• If you have any open wounds on the areas you would treat.
